Real Needs
Long-term satisfaction comes not from mysticism, but:
- Fulfilling careers and productive lifestyles, particularly those with values that free people choose to seek out.
- A deep, growth-filled connection with at least one person, which usually means a friendship and/or amorous relationship.
- Regularly pursued, enjoyable activities without going to extremes. This sometimes takes the form of walking, weight training, sports and so on.
- A varied and enjoyable diet.
- Creative pursuits, whether life-affirming art, music, theater, drama, literature, collecting, etc.
- Enjoyable leisure activities, downtime, or hobbies.
The list is straightforward and rational.
Nonetheless, people visualize piles of money rolling in from the lucrative sales of supplements, in businesses run from their homes. Through their religious faith in alternative medicine, they believe their product can restore to health the sick. Likewise, we see the new age healer who believes that supernatural power can cure serious diseases and transcend reality.
As more of us fall out of the lameness of geek spirituality, we may see that faith is a poor alternative to rational judgment...which praises the nonexistent.
As usual, the teachings found in any of the typical, life-wasting hoaxes,, perpetuated for the last few millenia by a mystical cadre--in essence, a ruling class.cannot meet our real needs.
